Adam and Eve chose a tree that led to death and brought sin into the world. Jesus chose a tree that led to death to free us all, conquering sin and death. I just heard a fellow seminarian talk about this and it is obvious but also blew my mind and I found it amazing. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and the cross of crucifixion.

God wants us to walk in obedience, not victory. Obedience is oriented toward God. Victory is oriented toward yourself. We need to cultivate in our own hearts the hatred of sin God has. Chapter 5 Paul exhorted us to be on our guard so we would not let send reign in our bodies. Thanks for this opportunity to open God’s word with you. As you may have guessed from the last three messages I’m going to be preaching on a prayer of Paul’s. You might have noticed a pattern there.
